Job Summary:
We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants to fill the Assistant Mens Basketball Coach position.

The position is housed in the athletic department and will report to Head Mens Basketball Coach and ultimately the Athletic Director or sport supervisor. It is the responsibility of the Assistant Mens Basketball Coach to work closely with the head coach to design, organize, implement, facilitate, oversee and evaluate all facets of a Big Sky, NCAA Division I assigned sport program. Several components of this job include: responsible for taking a lead role in recruiting, completing daily/weekly activity logs with student-athletes, student-athlete welfare issues, liaison with equipment room and Adidas contract, responsible for scouting teams and video exchange with other schools. This position also provides educational, monitoring, and supervisory components as well as working within a shared facility. This person will work closely with the athletic department support staff, equipment staff, sports medicine staff, sport & recreation center staff, Athletic Academic Coordinator/Advisor and the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. Will also work collaboratively with relevant constituent groups.

It is the responsibility of the Assistant Mens Basketball Coach to study and know all policies and procedures integral to university, Big Sky and NCAA rules compliance. Will assist in the direction, develop and management of all aspects of the assigned sport program including but not limited to; recruiting, talent evaluation, conducting training and development of student athletes within the team concept, scheduling, budget supervision, supervision of additional staff and monitoring academic progress of the team.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in a related field

  • Minimum of three (3) year experience working with Mens Basketball at the collegiate level.

  • Valid drivers license.

  • Ability to learn and adhere to the Big Sky Conference and NCAA rules.

  • Excellent computer technology/literacy skills.

  • Support and comply with all applicable rules and regulations of the NCAA, the Big Sky Conference, and other established bodies that govern intercollegiate athletics and the University. In the event the Employee becomes aware, or has reasonable cause to believe, that violations of rules compliance may have taken place, Employee shall report same promptly to the Athletic Director, Compliance Coordinator, or his/her designee.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree in a related field.

  • Three (3) years of collegiate experience working with mens basketball at the Division I level.

  • Collegiate recruiting experience at the NCAA Division I level.

  • No previous history of NCAA violations.

  • Collegiate, junior college head coaching experience.

Job Duties:
Assist in the administration, planning and organization of appropriate pre-season, in-season, and post-season programs, including practice planning, scheduling and making travel arrangements.Meet with head coach and other staff members daily to plan practices, competition, travel and other team matters.Facilitate learning of proper skill execution and safety techniques.Stay up to date on current trends in coaching and teaching skills.Percent of Time: 50

Organize all travel arrangements for team travel and applicable recruiting trips, including, but not limited to, airfare, lodging and charter/rental vehicles.Maintain and compare budgeted travel amounts to actual dollars spent; alert head coach to any significant variances.Arrange for all travel advances for mens basketball and ensure all reconciliations are processed in a timely manner.Percent of Time: 20

Assist the head coach in office management and organizational tasks.Provide assistance with any video software or service as it pertains to scouting of future opponents or prospective student-athletes.Percent of Time: 10

Responsible for completing daily/weekly activity logs with student-athletes and keep accurate records regarding all student-athlete communications and expectations, including student-athlete welfare issues.Work with Director of Compliance to keep current records of all student-athlete academic progress on a quarterly basisPercent of Time: 10

Identify and recruit qualified prospective student athletes.Keep accurate records of all contact with prospective student-athletes.Know NCAA and conference rules as they apply to coaching teams and individuals in season and out. Become proficient in navigation and use of NCAA and Big Sky Conference website.Percent of Time: 5

Conditions of Employment:
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
