Assistant Director of Strategic Communications

Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics, a Division I and Big Ten Conference member, is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant Director of Strategic Communications.

Responsibilities include serving as the primary communications contact for the nationally-ranked Penn State Women's Soccer and Women's Lacrosse programs, and mentoring student assistants in their role as contacts for the Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving programs. This role will play an integral role in execution of the department's overall mission of telling the story of Penn State Athletics while preparing students for a lifetime of impact. The successful candidate also has responsibility for producing media guides, news releases and feature stories; staffing home and away events; supervising student assistants at events, as well as statistical crews and other event support personnel; facilitating social media in line with department goals; other duties as assigned.

This position will be filled at a level 2 or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree or higher plus 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Degree in journalism, public relations or a related field plus work-related experience in communications or public relations preferred.

Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, website content management systems, social media platforms and Statcrew/NCAA Live Stats is preferred. Excellent communication and organizational skills are also required. Knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance is preferred. Position requires initiative, creativity and independence.

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
