Definition:
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking a talented individual to fill the position of Manager, Sports Information.
Under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Intercollegiate Athletics, the Manager - Sports Information is responsible for oversight of a comprehensive public relations program and serving as the primary media contact for the Districts sports teams. The position will oversee distribution of all department related news releases, game statistics reporting, production of department publications, maintains content on Districts official Athletic department website; updates and compiles information for athletic statistic reports and historical records; attends home team and designated away events to perform a variety of functions in support of the athletic program; and other duties as assigned by the AVC of Intercollegiate Athletics. The position requires the ability to handle an irregular work schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Santa Clara County, home of the Silicon Valley, is a world-renowned center for high technology and an important business and financial center. It is also the Bay Areas most populous county, with almost 2 million residents, and the site of Californias third largest city, San Jose. West Valley and Mission Colleges serve an area of approximately 350,000 residents. The West Valley-Mission Community College District is one of the largest employers in Santa Clara County.
The District is composed of two colleges: West Valley College in Saratoga and Mission College in Santa Clara. Together they enroll more than 17,375 students with diverse backgrounds. Courses are taught during day, evening, and weekend hours, in addition to online courses and distance learning. More than 1,525 faculty and staff work for the District, which has a budget exceeding $135,287,206. The service area includes the cities of Santa Clara, Saratoga, Campbell, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno; and parts of San Jose, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, and Santa Cruz County.

Assignment:
This is a classified administrator position with an anticipated start date of July 2026. This is an exempt, management position and is not subject to overtime.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary Range:
- Initial hire range: $147,266 - 156,841 annually (Administrative Salary Schedule, Range 11, Steps A-C).
- Annual salary step increases to maximum of salary range, $183,593 annually (Administrative Salary Schedule, Range 11, Step H).
Benefits include:
- Additional compensation: $2,000 for doctorate added to base salary annually, to be prorated on a monthly basis.

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of experience and education that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
- Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in athletics communications, media relations, public relations, marketing, or a closely related field, including one year of supervisory responsibility.
- Education: Equivalent of a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public relations, journalism, marketing, sports management, or a related field.
License and Certificate
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California drivers license

Understanding of, and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty, and staff.
Desired Qualification:
The ideal candidate will also demonstrate the following desired qualification(s):
- Knowledge of playing, officiating and other rules, regulations and practices used in a wide range of District team sports events.
- Standard web applications applicable to areas of assigned responsibility.
- AP and other journalistic standards, methods, procedures and techniques used to write press releases and stories and develop publicity materials.
- Advanced principles and practices of sound journalistic and business communication; correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Practices used to compile detailed team and individual statistics for a wide variety of sports.
- Uses and operations of a computer and applicable software, including word processing, sports statistics and desktop publishing software.
- Techniques and methods used in editing and general design, lay-out and production of written communication materials.
- Equipment operations and uses of scoreboard and public address systems used for sporting events.

- Budget administration, contract management, and vendor oversight practices.

- Operation and coordination of event communications systems including public address and scoreboard technologies.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Recommends and implements comprehensive athletics communications and media relations strategies to promote District athletic programs and student-athletes.
- Establishes editorial standards, branding guidelines, and messaging priorities for Athletics Department communications.
- Advises Athletics leadership on public relations strategy, crisis communication, and media response planning.
- Manages the production and distribution of athletics publications and digital content including media guides, game programs, press releases, feature stories, and promotional materials.
- Oversees the Athletics Department website and digital platforms to ensure accurate, timely, and engaging content delivery.
- Ensures compliance with conference, league, and institutional reporting requirements related to athletics statistics and records.
- Serves as the primary media relations representative for the Athletics Department.
- Develops and maintains effective working relationship with local, regional, and national media outlets.
- Coordinates credentialing, press operations, and media services for athletic events.
- Negotiates and manages sponsorships, advertising agreements, and vendor contracts related to athletics communications and marketing initiatives.
- Plans, assigns, supervises, trains, and evaluates professional, classified, temporary, student, and contract staff assigned to sports information and communications functions.
- Oversees recruitment, onboarding, and performance management of communications staff, interns, and student assistants.
- Establishes work priorities, operational schedules, and service standards.
- Participates in budget preparation and administration and monitors the Sports Marketing and Communications budget.
- Authorizes expenditures and ensures fiscal accountability for communications-related programs and services.
- Evaluates vendor performance and manages production timelines and quality standards.
- Oversees game-day communications operations including staffing, media accommodations, broadcasting coordination, and public address services.
- Leads planning and communications support for major Athletics Department events such as Hall of Fame ceremonies, Homecoming, and awards programs.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other district employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
- Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust and respect.
- Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation and communication.
