Position Summary

Whitworth University is seeking two Athletic Trainers to join our Sports Medicine team. Athletic Trainers at Whitworth provide comprehensive health care services to our Division III sports teams while supporting the Head Athletic Trainer in the daily operations of the athletic training department. Responsibilities include executing emergency procedures, administering first aid, maintaining meticulous documentation of care, and facilitating communication with coaches and physicians. The ideal candidates will offer dependable coverage for practices, games, and will travel with their assigned sports teams, and contribute to the supervision of the athletic training room.

These two positions present a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of Whitworth University's athletic programs while gaining valuable experience in sports medicine. We are currently recruiting for two open positions within our Sports Medicine team. One position is available for immediate hire, and the other will start on July 1, 2024.

Core Responsibilities

Athletic Training Services | 60%

  • Provide Medical Services including: Evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries
  • Provide injury education for student-athletes and parents
  • Appropriate referrals based on State and federal guidelines
  • Create injury prevention programs
  • Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies
  • Responsible for direct communication with student athletes, coaches, athletic administrators, and other health care providers
  • Provide event and practice coverage as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer including travel and work on evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Implements policies and procedures related to emergency action plans, environmental factors, concussion management, and catastrophic injuries.
  • Assist in supervision of athletic training room operation
  • Compliance with Labor and Industries standards and NCAA medical policies relative to the athletic training room
  • Manage students as needed including acting as preceptor if desired.
Administration | 20%
  • Organizes and maintains all medical records in accordance with federal and state regulations
  • Coordination of referrals to necessary outside medical providers
  • Process pre-season medical paperwork
  • Filing necessary insurance claims
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor
Other | 10%
  • Assist with special projects and athletics events
  • Other admin duties as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications | Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education and Certification

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Certified as an athletic trainer by the Board of Certification (BOC)
  • Maintain continuing education requirements as per BOC requirements.
  • Washington State Athletic Training Licensure or eligible before starting in position.
  • Certified CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor or willing to get certified upon hire.
  • Maintain current emergency cardiac care certifications.
Experience
  • Experience with Office 365.

  • Preceptor experience within an accredited athletic training program


Position Details

Schedule
Full-time (.92 FTE) | 11 months | 40 hours per week
Overtime Eligible
Whitworth's Athletic Trainers are entitled to overtime compensation; however, the posted salary does not incorporate overtime pay. Candidates should anticipate working additional hours and earning overtime pay during athletic seasons and when accompanying sports teams on travel.
Travel
Availability and willingness to travel and work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required to support the athletic team's schedule.
