Rate: $91,350 - $95,000 @ 1.0 FTE
Position Summary:
The purpose of the Head Football Coach is to organize and facilitate all aspects of the program in a professional manner that will translate into a successful and fulfilling experience for all student-athletes who are associated with the program. Other responsibilities include directing all aspects of a competitive NAIA football program including compliance with NAIA and University rules and regulations; recruitment of qualified, gifted student-athletes; contest scheduling; budget management; fund-raising; and retention of student-athletes. A head coach at SOU is expected to create an environment of respect, trust and commitment for his/her team. His/her efforts are focused by the following seven goals; 1. To positively affect the social growth and ethical engagement of our student-athletes 2.To create an environment of excellence. 3. To educate student-athletes about the importance and value of academic integrity, performance and graduation. 4. To provide a positive public identity for SOU. 5. To invest in the growth of our programs through sound fiscal management. 6. To create community and cultivate Raider identity. 7. To provide a fun and exciting atmosphere for SOU students and the community.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree. Minimum of three years college coaching or playing experience. A well-constructed and demonstrated coaching philosophy that focuses on character development. Ability and willingness to travel long distances for competitions and recruitment; work nights and weekends. Experience with/ability to interact with a diverse population.
Preferred Qualification:
Masters Degree. Experience as a college head coach or coordinator. Public institution experience (NAIA, NCAA DII, or high school).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to adherence to the NAIA, Cascade and Frontier Conference, and Southern Oregon University rules and regulations pertaining to recruiting, eligibility and general operation of the team
Special Conditions
Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work additional hours and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
This position classification has been defined as "exempt" and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the Oregon Revised Statues and is required to comply with the requirements set forth by the Oregon Department of Human Services.
